Lingonberries grow best in harsh, damp northern climes and are famous in Scandinavia and Denmark.  They are a beautiful bright red berry, a cousin to a cranberry, with a unique, intense flavor.  In Scandinavia, they are used not only as a jam but as a main dish accompaniment as with cranberry sauce or chutney.  Lingonberry jam goes well with both white and red meats.  It goes great as an ice cream topping.  Lingonberry and cream cheese on a bagel is superb.
