Originally made by Marconi-Osram Valve Co. (Genalex) in England, the famed N709 EL84 power tube is once again available. The Russian made reissue of the Genalex Gold Lion EL84 uses premium manufacturing materials such as gold plated grid wire and carbonized plate structures. The glass bottle and spacers have been engineered to reduce noise and microphonics.

HIGHER VOLTAGE AMPLIFIERS--PLEASE NOTE Many tube amplifiers run 6BQ5 / EL84 tube types over the specified maximum plate voltage ratings provided in manufacturer data sheets. This is not really a problem as long as the tubes are well matched at the actual operating voltages. As you push a tube beyond its design limits, it increases the tube’s sensitivity to changes in the operating conditions. This means that tubes matched at 250v (plate) and 250v (screen) cannot be expected to match at 320v (plate) and 320v (screen) (these specs are the operating voltages of the Orange Tiny Terror and Vox AC30 amps). So we now offer the choice to pick tubes matched at these higher voltages. If your amp has plate voltages above 320V, we recommend the Sovtek EL84M / 6BQ5WA which is designed for more demanding applications. We also recommend choosing the custom matching option to be sure your tubes will last as long as possible.
