Botanist No Ornamentation Bench

Description

The Botanist No Ornamentation Bench was designed by Claude Zellweger in 2008. The No Ornamentation series comments on the systematic overuse of ornamentation in contemporary furniture. The resurgence of decorative elements has been a welcome change from the unflinching minimalism of the early 2000s but it has also given birth to an array of products that have used such ornamental surface treatments merely to cover up their mediocrity. The No Ornamentation Bench is formed from a quarter-inch aluminum alloy sheet, making it durable yet lighter than you might expect. The No Ornamentation Bench is then finished with a powder coating that is solvent-free and comprised of various synthetic resins, pigments and special additives for a high quality surface finish. These economic and ecological powder coatings represent the future of paint technology. The powder coatings are UV and weather resistant intended to be used outdoors. These benches are corrosion resistant so they are welcome in a damp environment and look great in a garden or around the pool.

Designer

Claude Zellweger was born in Luzern, Switzerland and is the principal and design director at One & Co. Zellweger is an industrial designer who practices design across a wide array of disciplines in the furniture, sports and technology world. Zellweger believes that by making the complex simple and likeable, the designer is able to provide relief for tension.
