"The Wounded Bunkie" by Frederic Remington

 The Wounded Bunkie was the second of Frederic Remington's bronze sculptures and was welcomed with critical success.   The Remington statue depicts a wounded trooper who is kept steady by the support of an extended arm from a fellow rider as their horses bolt at full gallop. Remington was praised by critics who hailed his "complete mastery of the nature and anatomy of the horse. The action is superb ... the whole group in the most natural manner possible."
