This is a gorgeous and powerful depiction of the female lion by the acknowledged master of animal sculpture, Rembrandt Bugatti (Italian/French, 1884-1916). The elegant form of the lioness on the prowl is the subject of Bugatti's sculpture. Like her male companion (see our Nubian Lion), the lioness stands alert with her gaze darting forward, and Bugatti renders the linear beauty of her smooth flesh and musculature as if he could himself feel the creature with his bare hands. The subject of the lioness was one which Bugatti contemplated repeatedly throughout his brief career. The regal power of the female (the principal hunter in lion society), and the heavy vigilance of the male, evoke a mesmerising presence, close to that of a carved King and Queen from Ancient Egypt. The psychological depth of Bugatti's animals has ever been equalled. We have cast Nubian Lioness in our own California art foundry using 25 lbs. (11 kg) of pure bronze. The sculpture is finished with a gorgeous patina in tones of chocolate brown and amber. Please click on the thumbnail images above to see additional views. Nubian Lioness is mounted onto a black marble base, and stands 11½" high by 17" wide (29 cm high x 43 cm wide). It is from an edition limited to just 100 castings, and the individual number of each sculpture is stamped into the bronze. The bronze base is signed "R Bugatti"and carries our Art Bronze foundry seal. This is a fine bronze sculpture, made to the highest standards. We guarantee your satisfaction.
