We have searched long and hard for a manufacturer capable of rendering our designs at the right level of quality--and we've finally found one who is superior! The surface is smoothly planished and very nicely polished, a truly well-finished example of the armourer's art. Unlike those mass-produced around the world, this one is designed by medieval combatants and excuted with attention to detail, capturing both the form and function of the originals. And unlike those, ours come with a period liner and vervelles, all attached and ready to go! This is no lightweight 14ga. mild steel helmet. It's 12ga. mild steel construction is heavy enough for sustained use even in baton-based combat such as the Society for Creative Anachronism. Alternatively, it is available in a 14ga. stainless steel construction. It features a complete set of vervelles, period lining based on the Churburg #15 original, and a grilled visor with 7/8" openings between the bars. The sidemount version of this helmet features not one but two visors! The first is a simple but elegant pignose visor, designed originally near the end of the 14th century as a defense against the deadly archer (and it was effective, too). The small eyeslots are perfectly placed to be canted upwards during a cavalry charge--a simple look down as flights of arrows come in made the face nearly impenetrable. These visors are interchangeable--one can go out in a tournament with the visor, then quickly change into a grille for group encounters or competition. Fitted with solid brass vervelles, an optional 6mm flat ring, wedge-riveted aventail is available as an option. This is an excellent value for Western martial arts, SCA combat, or reenactment. It will give many years of fine service. Sizes S = 20.5" - 22"M = 22.5" - 23.5"L = 23.5" - 24.5"
