Favorite Winter Fashions
Most fashion trends appear, disappear and reappear, but there are a few trends that remain. Just search any category at an online apparel store, and you will always find at least one of these items year after year.
Sweaters
When most people think of sweaters, we usually think of the big, thick woolly kinds, but realistically, the itchy effects of these woolly sweaters leave little to be desired. Woolly sweaters are always on display during the fall and winter months. Their attractiveness tricks us into buying them, and their itchiness forces us to push them back into the dark corners of our closets so we can never make the mistake of putting them on again.
This year, save yourself the trouble. When you think of wool, try thinking of cashmere wool. Cashmere turtlenecks, cashmere cardigans and cashmere v-necks — whatever your favorite style is, you can find it in cashmere. Cashmere sweaters are soft and sophisticated and can provide you with the warmth you need to brave the cold without irritating your skin.
Outerwear
Coats are pretty much a necessity if you live in a city that experiences a true winter season — the kind that requires you to scrape ice off your windshield and turns your breath into smoke-like puffs. Coats trends change often. However, the one type of coat that continues to appear on runways is the wool coat. Wool outerwear items are perfect because they are interchangeable. You can wear them with casual tops and jeans, as well as with formal dresses and suits.
There are numerous things to consider when you are shopping for a wool coat or jacket. The most important thing to remember is to buy a wool coat that is lined with some sort of soft material like nylon. Try it on and walk around to make certain that the lining is thick enough to protect you from itchy fibers that can make the coat unbearable. Also, do not forget that some wool coats are not as warm as others. The heavier they are; the warmer you will be. So, if you live in Chicago, you might not want to buy the same wool coat that a Southern Californian may wear.
Shoes
Whether you live in the Southwest or the Northeast, the footwear of choice in the winter are boots. The most popular boots are leather boots. For women, the selection includes everything from knee-high to thigh-high to ankle boots. For men, ankle boots and cowboy boots are enough.
Almost everyone has at least one pair of brown leather boots and one pair of black leather boots. While some of us only stick to those two shades, others opt for colorful boots to match their favorite outfits. In fact, nowadays, new fashion trends allow us to wear leather boots with almost any ensemble, including business suits, jeans, mini skirts and even evening wear.
This winter invest in some one-tone cashmere sweaters, a wool pea coat and a good pair of leather boots. Do not worry if they cost a little more than you are used to spending. These trendy items will be used and reused for years to come.
