Australian Koala Coin

Now in its third year of issue these silver Koala coins are proving popular with bullion investors and collectors. These coins come in a clear plastic holder and presentation case and sell for a higher premium than silver eagles and maple leafs, but has a lower premium that Chinese silver pandas. The coins are struck at the Perth Mint in Australia, they measure 40.60mm in diameter and are 4.00 mm thick. They have a face value of 1 Australian dollar. The koala, native to Australia, has long been associated with that country. As such, it is the perfect animal to depict on a coin. The reverse showcases a young koala sitting on a tree branch, looking towards the viewer. A portrait of Queen Elizabeth II appears on the obverse side of the coin. This image is mandatory on Australian coinage.
