• Beautiful design - depicts Franklin as one of America's "Founding Fathers" and features a familiar image of Franklin in his later years.  The image is based on a bust originally executed by French sculptor Jean-Antoine Houdon in 1778.  The reverse of this coin features a replica of a 1776 Continental Currency dollar, in honor of Franklin's contributions to the development of our Nation's coinage and currency.

• Proof - the United States Mint also makes a limited number of Proof coins each year. Proof coins are unlike regular U.S. coins, because they undergo a specialized minting process, which begins by manually feeding burnished silver coin blanks into presses fitted with special dies.
