As the position of the steering arm changes when the suspension is lowered, or caster is altered, the static portion of the standard tie rod changes and a portion of its normal range of articulation is used. When the vehicle is driven and the suspension is compressed while turning or traveling over road surface irregularities, the tie rod can reach the limits of its articulation range as it attempts to track the arc of the steering arm. When the tie rod restricts suspension movement, a sudden change in "toe" occurs. This unsettles the suspension, which is very unfavorable, and sometimes downright unsafe!
