6 in. x 12 in. An exquisite, clumping harebell from the western Himalaya. Upright stems with hairy leaves bear pendant, sky-blue bells throughout summer. This distinctive species is at home in the rockery; long-lived wherever it can sink itÂ’s corky taproot into crevices between rocks. The plant dies back completely in winter and may need cover from excessive moisture in wet climates. Hardy to Zone 4.These justly popular rockery plants have differing needs, but are always rewarding. Most spread readily with underground runners or creeping stems; others are saxatile alpines, best grown in deep grit with a gravel collar in scree or rock crevices. Unless noted, they need gritty, well-drained soil and full sun to partial shade.
