3 ft. x 3 ft. This compact dwarf has large leaves that overlap each other like shingles, on very short growth, eventually forming a nearly spherical shrub. New growth is lime-green with bright red tips, aging to medium green followed by bright yellow autumn color. They do best in cool climates in well-drained, woodland soil that stays slightly moist in summer. Full sun is preferable for best leaf coloration, but afternoon shade should be provided where summers are hot, to prevent sunburn and browned leaf margins. These trees are grafted and any growth occurring below the graft should be carefully pruned away at the base. Dimensions are estimates after ten years of growth. For reference, we recommend J.D. Vertrees' Japanese Maples 3rd Edition, Timber Press. Hardy to Zone 5. Size shipped: 18-24 in./One Gallon Pot.
