The tango grows from the passionate and intense atmosphere of nocturnal life. The poet inside the man draws from that experience and sings to the woman he loves or to the reality that overpowers his senses. In his music, he also voices concerns about his world, which becomes the whole world. This collection of tango and related music represents a work in transition. Vayo Raimondo performs his own compositions, as well as a few themes from the past. The new music mirrors his perception of the present and looks ahead to the future, while the old tango interpretations provide a connection to our roots. At the Edge of Night is the result of complete, uninterrupted takes, without cuts and splices, in the manner of a live performance. Poetry prevails, while the music attempts to depict a complementary mood or state of mind. These themes cover the range of life's experiences, from the tenderness of a cradlesong to awareness at the moment of death.
