Brukdon was born in the mahogany camps of Belize. It is a style of singing that made light of people and events in the forest and was profoundly influenced by calypso. As it traveled to the towns, two different styles of brukdon emerged: some bands now emphasize the British roots of the music, others the African. This CD, recorded in Belize, presents both extremes: the "whitened" brukdon of the Mini Female Duet and the African-influenced boom and chime orchestras which, with rasping voices and complex percussion, perform the same repertoire with a very different flavor."Most Caribbean folk music just passes me by, but not this stuff." --MOEFeaturing:Mini-Musical Female DuetBrad Pattico & Co. thnic Boom 'n Chime BandBelizean Boom 'n Chime BandThe TigersThe Mahogany Chips 19 performances.Notes in Spanish.
