Sporting Events Coordinator Joey tries his hand at basketball when he visits with the coordinator of the Hoop-It-Up 3 on 3 Basketball Tournaments that are sponsored throughout the country. Nine hundred amateur teams participate in any given tournament in forty-four cities across the nation. Numerous tasks go into organizing these events including pulling together referees and volunteers that assist the coordinator, and contacting the local charities the tournaments benefit. Suggestions as to how to become involved in this type of work are given along with a list of other events to coordinate. St. Helens in Washington State to the U.S. Geological Survey of the Cascade Volcano Observatory to visit with a Public Information Scientist. His job is to relay information to the public on the activity surrounding volcanoes. He recaps the events that led up to the 1980 eruption of Mt. St. Helen. He also relays information on earthquake activity and volcano facts. Joey goes into the lab to see what types of equipment and instruments are used to monitor and collect data on earthquakes in the lava dome.
