DST5000 Dark System TesterHolland Electronics new Dark System Tester is a hand-held test meter/receiver and companion transmitter
that makes possible the sweeping of RF distribution systems before TV signals are
present. This pre-signal testing lets you know if the connections are correct, all passives
and cables are passing signals from 20-2150MHz to specification, and if not, where an
open or short circuit exists. The companion transmitter puts out 5 frequencies to emulate
those to be used on a system.
Applications: The Dark System Tester is a must have tool for verification of any RF system where a trouble free distribution is paramount. Map and verify new and existing wiring for: CATV, HDTV, Off-Air, SMATV, Satellite, Stacked/L-Band, XM/Sirius, and CCTV.
Transmitter: 5 Frequencies: 20,50, 950, 1450, and 2150 MHz
Receiver:
The receiver uses an LCD display to indicate simultaneous signal levels of the 5
frequencies above. The receiver displays the 5 frequencies in both bar graph and
numerical form. The indications are in dB from 0 to -30dB.
Operation:
The transmitter is coupled to the receiver and adjusted to 0dB at all frequencies.
When detached, the transmitter is placed at the home signal entry location. The receiver
is then placed at any location to simultaneously display signal loss at the 5 frequencies.
Memory: The meter can record the results from 50 locations and download later to a PC.
TDR (Time Domain Reflectometer):
The Dark Meter also provides the capability to find the distance to a short or open on a
coaxial cable within the range of 10-300 feet.
Cable Identification:
The Dark Meter provides the capability to identify home-run cables going to specific
locations from a system distribution box. The installer simply places a numbered,
push-on connector onto the cable in a known room, and then attaches the Dark Meter to
the group of unmarked cables one-by-one at the distribution point.The meter will indicate
the number of the push-on at each location thus identifying and confirming the cable path.
