The grinning skull, or death's head, is an extensively used momento mori, symbolizing man's limited time on earth and inevitable return to dust. In contrast to human impermanence, in many cultures the skull, as the receptacle of the brain, is regarded as the vessel of man's spirit and therefore the fount of life and thought. In alchemy, skulls were used in transformation processes. Inverted star has a skull at each point. 1-1/2" Sterling silver. Large bail takes most chains.
